The tower from the river, from the Trocadéro and from the end of
a side street, and then the things you pick out from its platforms. Every photograph
here was taken by the operators running the
Eiffel Tower evening tours.
The tower pictures do the work a description cannot. It is 330 metres to the tip of
the antennas and 276 to the floor you can stand on. Neither figure tells you what it
looks like from the Pont d’Iéna at seven in the evening. The four piers form
a square 410 feet on a side, which is why the flare reads from a mile away.
The rest of the set is the view. From the second floor the official pages name the
Louvre, the Grand Palais, the bends of the Seine, Montmartre, Invalides and Notre-Dame.
Those are the pictures below. The glass pyramid in its basin. The white domes of the
Sacré-Cœur above the rooftops. The buttresses of Notre-Dame from the water.
The food is here for the same reason: the tower has two Michelin-decorated kitchens in
it.
A note on what is not here. A good share of the photographs supplied with these
listings show somewhere else in France entirely — Mont-Saint-Michel, the cliffs at
Étretat, Honfleur, Chambord, Rouen. None of them is in this gallery. Everything
below is the tower, the view from it, or a street a listed tour actually walks.
